THOMAS D. RITTER represents clients in complex divorces involving alimony, child support, asset division, child custody, parenting plans, and prenuptial agreements at both the trial court and appellate levels. Tom also serves as a guardian ad litem, mediator, and conciliator in the Commonwealth. Prior to joining Atwood & Cherny, Tom was a law clerk for the Rhode Island Supreme Court. Prior to attending law school, Tom was an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester, Massachusetts and Director of the Child Life Program at UMASS Memorial Hospital.
Tom is a certified Guardian ad Litem and is often appointed by the justices of the Massachusetts Probate and Family Court, as well as by his peers. In addition, Tom often serves as a parenting coordinator. He is also a certified mediator and conciliator. Tom is one of the founding members of the mediation team at the Comprehensive Family Evaluation Center (CFEC) at Tufts University School of Medicine. Tom is also a member of the Suffolk Early Resolution Volunteer (SERV) program at the Suffolk Probate & Family Court, as well as a member of the Volunteer Lawyer’s Project. He is also a member of the Attorneys Representing Children (ARC) program in the Norfolk County Probate & Family Court. Tom is also a member of Senior Partner’s for Justice where he volunteers his time helping litigants in the Commonwealth who cannot afford representation. Tom also served on the Steering Committee of the Family Law Section of the Boston Bar Association where he was the Co-chair of the Education Committee from 2009-2012.
